Team Priya or Team Julia? Love Island UK and more
Love Island takes over this week. In the UK, the Grafties and Maya Jama's new podcast game turn the villa into a battlefield, and Dad and Isabella split hard over Julia, the season's most divisive islander, with one defending her bluntness and the other worn out by it. Aiden gets exposed as a serial flip-flopper caught between Priya and Jasmine's sister, Samraj and Priya reignite their feud, Ethan is dumped right after an awkward family day, and three couples head into the public vote vulnerable. On the USA side the season is over but the fallout isn't: Nick and Olandria have split, and a season six rivalry flares back up as Kenny takes his breakup with JaNa to a tell-all podcast while Kordell and others rush to JaNa's defense. Isabella also checks in on Big Brother, where houseguest Angela torches a fake-crier at the nomination table.
On the Bravo side, Next Gen NYC's Charlie keeps building his villain edit with quotable one-liners and a murky real-life backstory, Below Deck Med juggles a yacht matchmaker with Captain Sandy's report on the Luke and Nathan mess, and Real Housewives of Atlanta wanders through Scotland with Shamea, Porsha, and Phaedra's new "Lady of the Glen" title. The In the City reunion sorts out Kyle, Amanda, and Lindsay Hubbard, The Valley drops in on Luke Broderick and Kristen in couples therapy, and Salt Lake City loses two couples in a week as Angie Katsanevas and Whitney Rose both announce splits.
This week also marks a new direction for the show, as Dad and Isabella step outside reality TV to briefly start weighing in on documentaries. Dad makes his case for Building a Mystery, the Lilith Fair film on Hulu about Sarah McLachlan's groundbreaking all-women festival and how the music industry treated women at the time, a tour he admits he dismissed back then and now regrets missing. Isabella counters with a run of recent Netflix true crime, including A Toxic Love Story, the high-school-catfish stunner Unknown Number, and the brutal Maternal Instinct. It's a deliberate widening of what the show covers, and they close by asking listeners to send documentary recommendations for future episodes.
Isabella: Hi. I'm Isabella. My dad is obsessed with reality television, maybe even more so than I am.
Dad: She's not wrong.
Isabella: This is Check Me Boomer, a father daughter weekly dish on the latest reality TV.
Dad: Hi, Isabella.
Isabella: Hi, dad.
Dad: How are you?
Isabella: Doing well. Happy Sunday.
Dad: Likewise. Today is July 26. By the time this is released, it will be July 27, and this is episode eight of Check Me Boomer. What do you have on the agenda for today?
Isabella: Lots on the agenda today. Of course, you know we have wrapped up Love Island USA, but I do have a little bit of news regarding that and some breakups in Bravo that I just wanna mention. And then, of course, lots on Love Island UK and our regularly scheduled Bravo shows. And then I have one thing to say about Big Brother. We're gonna have a little check-in with Big Brother.
Dad: Okay.
Isabella: So anything you wanna add or you're just gonna be along for the ride?
Dad: Mostly along for the ride. I will cover McBee Dynasty very briefly. I might pitch you on a couple of shows and a movie to make sure you've seen it, one of those generational things. Alright. You wanna start with USA, the this update you're referencing?
Isabella: I just have a couple updates from previous seasons. You might have seen that Nick and Olandria broke up.
Dad: I did.
Isabella: Pretty interesting that it happened just about at the year mark that kind of plays into what a lot of people were thinking was a PR relationship. I don't know, but there's something there. And then the other drama that I've seen going on regarding Love Island USA is from two seasons ago, the season that Serena and Kordell won. There was another couple that came out of there, Janae and Kenny. We've had they ended up breaking up, and we never really got the full story from it.
But we know that JaNa was kind of indicating that she found some racist text on Kenny's phone about JaNa. So he has now come out of his cave and gone on a podcast to tell his side of the story about how he was so victimized and how he was so miserable in this relationship and just making stuff up, saying that she beat him up. She came out and said, my lawyers are in contact. I think you should just release the text that you sent me because that tells the whole story right there. And so Kordell actually came out in support of JaNa, and I think some other people have mentioned it too.
It's just this guy is a big loser, and he's clearly trying to make some last minute cash on the situation, but it's so embarrassing for him. So those that's what's going on in the Love Island USA world right now. The previous season, Bryce and Trinity are doing some interviews and stuff, but nothing nothing really of note there.
Dad: Okay.
Isabella: And then I did wanna mention some Bravo breakups we saw this week as well. Angie K and Sean and Whitney Rose and Justin Rose, she was on our game last week. They have both of these couples from Salt Lake City, Rahasselsee. They are now split up, announced within a week of each other. So I don't know what's going on there.
Angie K, I think, is a little bit more surprising. Whitney and Justin, we probably could have seen coming, but still.
Dad: Well, keep us posted if you hear anything more about the circumstances behind their breakups.
Isabella: Yeah. Will do. I will keep my eyes open, but I'm sure it will also play out on the next season as well.
Dad: Okay.
Isabella: So looking forward to that. Okay. Do you wanna get into Love Island UK? I got a lot to say there.
Dad: So Okay. Yes. Let me start by saying that notwithstanding that you were forecasting that I would be disappointed because it would be getting too lovey dovey because it's close to the end. It would be so lame like Love Island USA became. I am pleasantly surprised at the amount of drama that they had this week and maybe because it's got longer to go than I'm anticipating, but it's been pretty good.
Isabella: Yeah. I would agree. I think they're definitely trying to do some things to ramp up the drama, and it's working. We had the Grafties this week. We also just saw on today's episode Maya Jama's new podcast game, I guess, where they have each couple come on and answer questions as if they were doing a podcast on the outside.
So these both of these things brought in a lot of drama. There was also just a lot going on with Priya and Aiden, and Julia, and Julia versus Priya, and we've got some couples in love. So I'll just start by saying, on top of Angie and Simba from last week, we now have Kavan and Jasmine, Yaz and Tommy, and Mika and Samraj all have told each other they're in love with each other. So that's nice, but let's get into the drama.
Dad: Yes. And when you get to them, I have comments mainly about Priya Julia, really just about those two.
Isabella: Yeah. Well, I have a lot to say about all of those. The the week started kind of coming off the back of the previous game, which at this point, I don't even really remember what it was. But Aiden's apologizing to Jasmine and Kavan for selecting them for something bad. But we quickly go into the Grafties.
If you've never watched UK before, it's a little bit similar to Movie Night in that they show clips. But instead of it just being clips, it's like kind of an awards show. So I'll just run through who won what, and then kind of what came from the Grafties. So Aiden won a lot. He won flirtiest conversation, biggest plot twist, and raunchiest moment.
Dad: Real quick, for the listeners who aren't familiar with the show, winning in this Grafties night is not necessarily a good thing.
Isabella: That's a good point. That's a good point to point out. It's kind of they're calling people out. So they're winning awards, but it's not really awards you wanna be winning.
Dad: Right.
Isabella: A lot of them are still taking it well. Like, I think Simba was kinda laughing over his he won most dramatic performance. I thought that one was funny. And then Lorenzo won most emotional performance. They were funny.
They're all saying, the rock is gone now. That's a reference to week one. And then the the most interesting award to me was the keep my name out of your mouth award. And this award showed clips from After Sun of dumped islanders talking.
Dad: Right.
Isabella: So that award was won by Charlene, but accepted by Mika because Charlene is talking about how Mika is, like, not a girl's girl. I don't know. I don't even remember what the quote was, but Charlene was talking some smack about Mika. She took it well too. We've we had a couple things exposed on the Grafties.
We saw the Priya and Aiden final conversation about wanting to be in the final. We saw the full conversation with Aiden and Jasmine's sister, which we should also probably talk a little bit about family day too, but we saw all their families come in. And, yeah, Jasmine's sister, Bella, I believe her name is, pulled Aiden aside and is talking about, oh, I want you to come hang out with us and come to our parties. And Aiden is, of course, going and telling his brother and all the boys, like, oh, she's cute, isn't she? Not really telling Priya this, but Priya finds out from Jasmine, and that's a whole thing.
But back to the Grafties, I think Aiden overall was just exposed. They're all kinda getting on him. Someone, I don't remember who it was, says, you're Aiden Murphy. You're not gonna change. Poor Priya.
I just feel bad for her this entire time as well as the entire season.
Dad: Let me jump in there because I don't feel bad for Priya at all. She's I'm sick of her. She's constantly saying, I don't care anymore. I can't be arsed. I'm just gonna move on.
Except she says it over and over and over again, so it's pretty clear she is bothered, and she won't stop talking about it. She's constantly going to her friends to reinforce her own problems and what's in her mind, and then they all get together and gang up on Julia. I am still team Julia. I'm sorry. I know that you're irritated.
Isabella: This is where we're gonna disagree, I think.
Dad: Well, I get it that you're not happy with Julia because she went after Jasmine, but I think as between Julia and Priya, I'm on team Julia's side. Anyone who mentions get to the final, you're on notice that someone is going to use that and take the position that you're doing gameplay. And I also think that Priya is saying, I'm just in here to find a relationship, and I'm just gonna stick with what's true. But having been told by Aiden, and maybe I'm stealing some of what you're gonna cover here, he said, I'm not really too deep into it. I'm not emotionally invested.
And her saying, well, I'm still going to see how things go. They're only two weeks. Like, you're only staying in this Less than day,
Isabella: I think.
Dad: Right. So at this point for her to say, this isn't gameplay. I'm just gonna see if we can continue to get to know each other. There's no time left for that. Wait.
Just leave the show and get to know him on the outside if that's really what you wanna do. So she keeps saying that she's not in it for gameplay even when others call her out on it. And it's not just Julia that calls her out later in today's episode, I think Simba and Angelica call her out as well, and that didn't go over well. But she's also a bit of a hypocrite saying that it's just being hurtful when someone gives her an opinion, namely Julia, and she doesn't like being hurt, and it's hurting others. I don't understand that at all.
I don't think anyone is hurt by the opinion that Julia is sharing. But then in today's game, where they say
Isabella: is just nasty. I'm sorry. I just had to jump. Julia's just being like, it's just not necessary, the thing she's saying, but go on.
Dad: Sorry. And this is my point. Priya says you should basically, she says you should just keep those opinions to yourself because they're hurtful. And every time Julia says, okay. Well, then stop coming to me and asking me about them because every time you ask me about them, I will repeat them.
And in today's game, they got mad when Tommy said something about the Priya and Aiden couple in one of the choices that they made, and they said, well, that's not fair. Tommy, you've never said that to me. Okay, Priya. You can't have it both ways. If you're mad because someone gives you an opinion you don't like and you would wish that they would keep the opinions to themselves, fine.
But then don't call out Tommy and say, well, you've never said that to my face. That's an opinion and it was a negative opinion. Then you can't blame him for not saying anything. He was probably smart in saying, well, look, if Julia says something, then I'm going to keep it to myself. So I just I'm sick of her.
Just if you're really not bothered by it, then keep keep your mouth shut.
Isabella: I am not like the the ultimate Priya defender, but I just have to put myself in her shoes Every single time she thinks that a guy likes her, he doesn't. Like, he he backtracks. It's not just Julia that has kind of come for Priya a little bit, how you did mention. It's, I mean, like you said, I think Tommy did, and and she's definitely been talked about regarding the gameplay before. So the the gameplay thing is not where I have issue with.
I think that Julia had every right to mention that part of it because that was brought up at the Grafties. What I have issue with is and and to be clear, I I think Julia is great for the show. I just in real life, I would not be friends with that girl. Like, not even a little bit. I thought Priya had a good quote at one point telling her off in the in the dressing room.
She said, you you say you're giving all the all of your opinions. I have opinions too. I just don't wanna hurt you. So I'm gonna keep them to myself. And of course, then when the game comes around and she's asked about these things, that's when Priya gives her opinion on Julia and Lorenzo.
But I don't think Priya asked for Julia's opinion on Priya and Aiden's relationship. She doesn't care what other people think at this point clear I mean, well, that's tough because I think she she cares, but she's not gonna let other people talk her into what to do. So I respect that she's still staying with Aiden, even though I can't stand Aiden. I don't think he's interested in her at all. I think he's been leading her on this entire time.
So it's really not all on Julia that I'm kind of defensive over Priya. It's it's eight and two. It's I that I feel like no one in this villa has been real with Priya, and it it bothers me.
Dad: Yeah. But maybe she's just thirsty. Right? She thinks every guy likes her, if he doesn't, then she should just move on or leave. She's she's desperate for a connection to stay to the end.
I think that there is stuff that has not been shown or at least that I haven't seen. Maybe you see it on unseen bits, But they all know that she's the biggest fan. That comes up every once in a while, how she's the biggest Love Island fan. And today, when she was talking about there have been thirteen seasons of Love Island, and the OGs are always in the end. There are very few people from Casa or the bombshells.
And that's when Julia turns back and says, see, you're you're talking about things that are based on how things have gone and how the show works as opposed to just me as a person. And then we we'll never agree on this, but one last point on it is that during today's game, every opportunity that Priya and Aiden had to pick a couple, which all of the picks out of the podcast were negative. They were not like saying who's the sweetest couple or who's most likely to get married or anything like that. Every choice was negative and every instance they could, they picked Julia and Lorenzo even on issues that were probably debatable as to whether they were the right picks, and you could see Angelista and other couples saying, oh, that's not right. I'm not sure I agree with that.
But she was just out for vengeance. So she's not beneath acting catty too. She she does it. She just is better at pretending or saying things to make it sound like she's not, but she's catty.
Isabella: Well, to go along with what Priya has said, at the Grafties, I guess or not even the Grafties. What was it? It was Maya Jama's game when Simba and Angie picked Priya and Aiden for something. And then during that game, I guess, later on, Julia's jumping in and just making comments that are just not necessary to make. And so that's when Priya's like, Simba, do you see what I'm dealing with though?
Like, she keeps making these comments and she starts laughing over over my pain pretty much that it's just like, it's exhausting. And I I get what she's coming from there. Like, all the girls have had an issue with Julia.
Dad: Part of it is because they're all friends with Priya. They go back to the very beginning, so they're they're always going to protect their closest friends. And the one part where I didn't quite understand that they didn't get more support when one of the the awards, they they not only pick among the couples, but then they say, okay. What did the public say? And almost every time, they were picking Priya and Aiden.
And on the one that was most on point to Julia's biggest beef with Priya, when the public agreed with her, she said amen, and they all acted like that was horrible. No. It's evidence that lots of people agree with her view, not just the people in the villa.
Isabella: Yeah. I I don't disagree with her most of her views either. I the problem I have is how she's going about it and how she's being so, like she I just feel like it's coming across a little bit nasty. And and again, I I don't think Priya's always right. I think Priya and Aiden should be dumped.
They probably will be dumped. I don't think they're a real couple. I do think they were in it for the final a little bit. But at the end of the day, Julia is great for TV. I would never be friends with a girl like that.
I just really wouldn't. I don't think she has any sort of sympathy for anyone or empathy really even either.
Dad: I I think part of it is when she does say something, she is not emotive in her face or in how she speaks, meaning it comes across as a little bit more monotone, and it might be more likely to be perceived as colder, even though I think that's just how she speaks. She's very it almost comes across as clinical, and in comparison to some of the other girls or women and how they speak, it might not help if you're delivering something that can be seen or received as negative and you have that lack of facial expressions that are commonly delivered by someone when they're trying to give someone bad news. So maybe that's part of it. But I like her. I I would be
Isabella: friends with her.
Dad: Anyway, we we should probably move on from this narrow subject. I know you have a lot
Isabella: to talk about. Yeah. I I do wanna quickly mention the Jasmine thing. Jasmine went and talked to Lorenzo at one point. Clearly, Julia did not like that even though they're obviously just friends.
Julia comes over and tells Jasmine that she doesn't doesn't trust her because of the Jordan and Priya thing, which my thing is, if they've all made up, why are we still talking about the issue? Like, I get it's a TV show, but Jasmine and Priya are cool now. So why is Julia bringing that up again? I I like how Jasmine handled that, and that she was like, okay. If you feel that way, then I don't know why we're talking.
Like, we don't have to be friends. So, I don't know. I'm always gonna be team Jasmine, but I thought that was weird too. Let's talk about Aiden a little bit.
Dad: Sure.
Isabella: So, like I said, he kinda cleaned up his mess with Jasmine and Kavan. And he's he is starting to give Kavan a little bit better advice. But he has zero interest in Priya. It's very clear. The first single girl that Aiden comes across is Jasmine's sister, and he's immediately flirting with her.
And he's going and telling the boys I think I already mentioned this. But point is, he's he's going back and forth with Priya. Like, he's going on this date with Priya and telling her like, oh, cheers to potentially finding love. And then right after that, right after the date, Kavan tells him something like, I I feel like you're not feeling her. And he's like, you know what?
You're right. He goes and tells Priya that he's not really feeling her. And then after the grafties, he goes and says, never mind. I yeah. I don't feel deeply, but I still really wanna get to know you.
So he's just oh my gosh. He's he's just the worst. He's he's pissing me off to no end. He's never fully honest. Like, he wasn't honest about what he told Jasmine's sister.
He wasn't even honest about what he told Alicia. So he's he's the worst. He sucks. That's all I have to say.
Dad: And at one point, he said, I have always been open and honest with how I'm feeling. Okay. Let's put aside for a second that that's not fully accurate, but take it at face value. Even if that's true, the problem is he changes how he feels by day or even more frequently. So he might have been honest and said, okay.
Here's to finding love, and then changed his mind after meeting her family and going on the date. Well, the problem is you shouldn't be changing your mind that quickly. Then the fact that you're honest about it doesn't excuse the fact that you're a roller coaster of how you feel, which obviously impacts Priya and others he's tried to connect with on the show.
Isabella: One more quick thing about Priya that's not about Julia. During the Grafties, Priya and Samraj had another little tiff because they brought up their clip where Samraj calls Priya embarrassing, and then Priya kinda claps back and says, well, f off. And they're kind of the whole villa is kinda laughing over this clip because they made up. But then Samraj's just like, oh, I don't know why you guys are laughing. Like, it's so rude.
Dude, you called her embarrassing. She had every right to clap back at you. And no, she it wasn't right what she said, but you caused that.
Dad: Well, he made a point. I'm not sure it's accurate, but he said that she called or he said she was embarrassing after she called him pathetic. I I can't remember if that order is correct, but she got all mad. Like, the use of the word embarrassing is the worst thing you could say to someone, and it justifies being told to f off. But so I kind of get his point that if she didn't like the word embarrassing, she could have chosen something short of saying f off.
And embarrassing is a little bit more equivalent to pathetic, but this is also stupid. You're right. He should have never he should have just laughed it off and moved on.
Isabella: Yeah.
Dad: And then she could have also just said, we already talked about this. Let's let's move on. But then they they both doubled down, and they were they had no problem revisiting that whole issue.
Isabella: Samraj , I mean, I do go back and forth with him. I liked how at the family day, he pulled Priya's mom aside and apologized to her. I do think that the hate for those two is are is forced. Like, I do see them I think they're cute together. I know I think the Mika hate especially is forced.
I know she's had a couple situations with Priya and with the Simba thing, but I think those girls love Mika. So if all the girls love Mika, she can't be that bad.
Dad: Right.
Isabella: Okay? I think that's forced. Oh, we we didn't mention the most pointless re coupling to ever happen, which was right after family day. Speaking of family day, Ethan and Priya being coupled up on family day and having both their families coming together and talk and, I mean, his family kinda given Priya the business. So awkward.
And then, of course, Ethan was dumped right after that because they did a re coupling, but, like, duh. Just just let him leave with his family at that point.
Dad: Right. That was awkward.
Isabella: So awkward. Simba is gonna get my Unseen Bits MVP because if anyone else watches Unseen Bits, he had this nightmare that was he just woke up out of his sleep and went, ah. It was just funny. And then I guess next week, we're going to see the results of the public voting. So we currently have three couples vulnerable for being voted least compatible by the islanders.
We have Priya and Aiden, Julia and Lorenzo, and Mika and Samraj all vulnerable. I'm gonna go ahead and say Priya and Aiden are gonna get dumped here. Agree?
Dad: Probably. Except that Mika and Samraj have both been in the bottom a couple times, so who knows how that's gonna end up?
Isabella: They have. But based on how the public were voting in the podcast game, I do think it's gonna be Priya morrand Aiden.
Dad: And by the time this episode is released, then we will know the results because it's gonna be on tomorrow's Show.
Isabella: Yeah. That's probably true.
Dad: So Okay.
Isabella: Alright. Any last words there? Should we move on?
Dad: Nope. I'm ready to move on. You want me to cover McBee Dynasty real quick?
Isabella: Sure.
Dad: Okay. I I'm repeating my view. This show is just so bad. But, again, I am watching it, so it's more of a reflection on me. The two characters that are the the worst are both Nate Steven.
One is the patriarch Steven Sr, who you don't ever see except from behind because he's off the show for the season and getting ready to go into prison, which they did show in the most recent episode. But the son, wow. He is just so immature. One of his sister in laws well, guess they're not sister in laws because his brother hasn't married her yet even though they have a kid or she's pregnant. But he is immediately trying to force equity of some sub line that they're selling tallow for facial cream.
One of the girlfriends has been running the show, and so Steven has this brilliant idea to give 20% equity in that company to his new girlfriend of a couple weeks because she's an influencer and has 250,000 followers. And the other woman, I think her name is Casey, points out, well, Steven has more followers than her. McBee Farms has almost as many. And among the family members, they all have if you add them together, they have four times as many followers. But he's just stuck on this and then due to a spoiler from Watch What Happens Live, we all know that he's already broken up or she's broken up with him.
They are not together even though the season is not over. And it's just so bad. And he just has no accountability. Hey, if she's worth all this, then pay her salary. Right?
Every time that her influencer code is used, that she gets a piece of the action, as opposed to just give her 20% of the company. It's just so dumb. Yet he styles himself as the one to naturally run the company when his dad is in prison. There's no other that's not even a close call, except his dad picks his mother to run the company while they're gone, which was like the most drama. Anyway, that's all the show is worth.
I'm sure I will finish out the season, but he's just he's awful.
Isabella: So you know I don't watch this show, but I did see that episode of Watch What Happens Live. And something stood out for me for him on there when he was asked what women in the Bravo universe would you date. He picks out Ciara tomorrowMiller and Mia, I think her last name is Alario from Southern Hospitality. I'm like, oh, so just the two most beautiful young women on Bravo. Okay.
Duh. Oh, maybe he's trying to expand his horizons and
Dad: Or connect with someone with a lot of followers. I'm guessing that Yeah. Obviously, Sierra has way more followers than 250,000. But when you talk at some point, I'll look up Mia, but I just can't be bothered right now. I can't be arsed.
Isabella: Yeah. She you'd know her when you see her.
Dad: Oh, I know who she is. I was gonna look up to see how many followers she has.
Isabella: Oh, gotcha. Okay.
Dad: I think personally, I think she's the prettiest one on Southern Hospitality. And the one that think I would get along with the most. She's funny and doesn't put up with shit.
Isabella: Yeah. She doesn't get enough credit, honestly. She doesn't, but we're excited for that to come back to Southern Hospitality. There's drama going on there, but maybe we could talk about that next week because I wanna get into Big Brother. So for for anyone who hasn't watched Big Brother, it's basically survivor in a house.
The only difference is that it's similar to Love Island. It's being recorded right now. Every time they vote someone off, it's live, like it's live TV. It's happening in LA in the CBS studios as we're watching it. So that's the cool part of the show.
This season, it's all normal people except for three. They brought in two previous survivor cast members and one older big brother cast member named Angela. Now if anyone knows Angela, she's an older woman, probably you and mom's age. She is so funny because she gets so angry and upset and, like, freaks out. So she's just good for TV.
So so what happened in this season so far is she kind of becomes friends with this gay man, Jason. He was on RuPaul's Drag Race before. She connects with him because she has a trans son or daughter. I forget which one. So she's, like, crying to him.
He starts crying back to her and saying, oh, you remind me of my mom. And then as soon as she leaves the room, he, like, starts laughing and saying, like, got her. And he's going and telling people, like, oh, yeah. I fake cried to Angela. And Angela finds out.
So Angela, at the nomination ceremony where everyone is sitting around this roundtable, she stands up and blasts him for it. She calls him out, tells everybody what he did. So that was great. Other than that, we have a couple that's in love not even two weeks in. They're fake breaking up for the game.
We've got grown men crying in confessionals. It's it's it's really entertaining right now. And I know that Big Brother lasts a long time, so it might fizzle out a little bit. But right now, I'm very much entertained.
Dad: Interesting. I do not watch. I probably won't add to my list, but appreciate you covering
Isabella: tough one because it is it is three times a week. So it is a tougher one to get into. But
Dad: Do do they have an equivalent of unseen bits, bloopers, or something?
Isabella: They do, actually. So if you watch that, it's actually four four days a week.
Dad: Okay.
Isabella: But I
Dad: do not watch that.
Isabella: The After Sun equivalent, I would say, is during, like, the episode where the person is evicted because they walk out of the house to a live audience, and they're interviewed right there by the host. Right. So the coolest part of the show is that it's all happening right now. And the other cool thing is they have 24 live feeds. So you can go on Paramount plus and see what they're doing as we speak.
Dad: Please tell me they'll
Isabella: do that. Seasons that I've gotten really into, I have gone and done that a little bit. But
Dad: I'm familiar with the show. We used to watch it years ago. I don't know how many seasons have gone on, but I think it's been around for a very long time.
Isabella: Yeah. Yeah. It's very long. I think they're gonna have their one thousandth episode this season. So yeah.
Dad: Okay.
Isabella: But that's all I have to say there, so we can move on. What do you wanna get into, bravo wise?
Dad: Let's do Next Gen NYC, and I'll start off by saying I was disappointed that Riley wasn't on this episode at all, especially given the drama drama from her from the last two episodes. The only notes I took were all related to Charlie.
Isabella: Yeah. Me
Dad: too. He's definitely setting being set up or is setting himself up as the villain for the show again. But, wow, he has the best quotes. First of all, they're all talking about psychics. And he just said psychics are bogus, but he he goes out of his way to ask the psychic if he can bang the gong that's hanging in it.
He said gongs are cool. And for some reason, found that pretty funny. Then there's an argument that he has with what's the Mark's kid's name? Brooks. Brooks.
So they're having an argument, and Brooks says something like you quasi triggered me or something like that. He uses quasi, and then Charlie says, okay. I'm quasi sorry. I thought that was great.
Isabella: I thought that was funny too. Yeah.
Dad: The the best one was, though, Brooks was saying how he was very uncomfortable being around Charlie, and Charlie leans into the biggest drama going on with him behind the scenes and says, are you worried I'm going to kidnap and torture you? And I just thought that that was that was awesome. So funny because
Isabella: must have missed that.
Dad: It's it's great. It's it's during the season or during the episode where they're at that bar. But, yes, behind the scenes, there's some situation where some guy in New York was kept captive and tortured to try to get his pass keys to open up some cyber wallet. And when the guy was arrested on the streets of New York, there was a picture or there's video of Charlie standing close by because it happened in this building. And they never they don't go into any detail as to whether or to what extent he had any involvement, if any.
But it's a it's a running issue that's brought up every once in while on the show. But those are the only comments I had for Next Gen NYC this week.
Isabella: Well, going along with kinda what he was talking about with the that whole situation, when he actually brought up that Ariana's on probation right now, and Ariana snapped her head back and said, excuse me. What what are you talking about? What are you talk like, she just I liked her reaction to that. Ariana is on probation for DUI. She got a DUI right around us where we live.
So Not quite as dramatic as valid point, but not as dramatic at all.
Dad: Kidnapping, torture, cyber, Bitcoin thievery issue
Isabella: Yeah. Alleged. But I'm kind of actually glad that Charlie brought it up because don't think Ariana's ever addressed that. I don't think it was ever brought up on the first season, and it was kind of big news at the time. I think I might have missed something with Charlie and Seth Marks.
I don't remember what Charlie said about Seth. It must have been something at the reunion maybe. Seth Marks, obviously, is Brooke's dad, Meredith Marks' husband. Yeah. I don't really know what went down there, but clearly Brooke is very upset about that.
Dad: I think it was last season they had a sit down, and it seemed like everything was going well. And Charlie in front of Seth and Brooks was acting as if he was taking the advice and appreciated it. But then in the confessional, he was saying, oh my gosh. This is the worst thing ever. I'd rather cut my OD off than be sitting here talking to Seth oMarks.
Isabella: Okay. Yeah. I remember that now. The other thing is Charlie protecting Hudson so much is weird. Like, he's pretending to have now and care about Hudson.
Oh my gosh. This note. What is Charlie wearing in this episode? It looks like he's got, like, a tactical vest on.
Dad: It's a bulletproof
Isabella: Is he about to go, like, join ICE or something? Like, what is going on with his outfit? Does he think he looks cool? I don't understand it at all.
Dad: It's a Halloween event at a bar, and someone at the beginning asked him what he was wearing. And I thought he said, I just put on some random vest. Maybe he said bulletproof vest, but I was having the same reaction looking at him. I'm like, what is that? And then it's a bulletproof event?
Yes. There it was a Halloween it's Halloween in New York City, and everyone else was dressed up. Remember, Georgia was her outfit was the best. She just had gray leggings and a gray shirt and then put on a pigeon mask and walked around periodically.
Isabella: Okay. That's right. See, I thought that that was a different event. No. Like, I knew that they had the Halloween event, and then they had the Rocky Horror Picture Show event.
I maybe didn't realize it was the same thing.
Dad: I think it was on the same night, so that's why it might be confusing.
Isabella: And Maybe, yeah, maybe same night, but two different episodes.
Dad: If that is Oh,
Isabella: and then the best,
Dad: it doesn't fit him very well. It wouldn't work.
Isabella: Well, he he just looks dumb. I mean, he just looks silly. Georgia called Charlie a cult leader. I thought that was funny. And then the kind of peak of the episode was at the end when Amira found out what Charlie said about her boyfriend saying that he's a gay man, which, of course, Amira as a trans woman is not gonna take that well.
So that's kind of how the episode ended on a bit of a cliffhanger. She storms out of the bar. I don't think those two are gonna be friends anymore. I think Charlie's kind of blowing up every single friendship he has. So we'll see how that goes next week.
Dad: That's all I've got.
Isabella: Alright. Should we do
Dad: I've got the
Isabella: I would like to do below deck med. Okay. Go ahead. Okay. First thing I would like to say is how much does this yacht matchmaker cost?
Like asking for a friend.
Dad: I was gonna say, are you interested? Or
Isabella: I am interested.
Dad: Well, I was thinking that the slew of candidates that she got weren't really great. So that's not a good start in my opinion.
Isabella: No. And that's a couple the I have a couple of comments about that. One of the one of the guests is pretty red pill. It was the guy in the fedora and the suspenders, which is super ironic that he's talking about how, oh, women these days are terrible and not loyal and just a weird red pill guy. And then the other guy, his name is Billy.
We find out he's on the phone with another woman every night, or maybe not every night, but once he goes to bed and he's in his own room, he's talking on the phone to another woman. So, yeah, great guys they found here. I think the Luke and Nathan soiled sheets situation is kind of coming to an end now. What I thought was crazy, though, is how Sandy had to write a report about it and called it unprecedented situation. I was like, yeah.
I'm thinking, yes, Sandy. Unprecedented is right. If she's having to write a report and that's going into some database that all these hiring people are gonna see, that he's never getting hired again. I mean, he's done.
Dad: Well, it's it it might just be a report for internal purposes for HR or insurance. Who knows? I don't know. I I struggle to think that there's a requirement that that action fits within you must write a report about this, but who knows?
Isabella: Well, that's why Sandy is like, it's unprecedented. Like, this has never happened to me before.
Dad: Or if it's happened, she's never been told, which I I do struggle with why he told her that other than it's a TV show and it would ramp up the drama.
Isabella: Well, he didn't tell her. Nathan did.
Dad: Because Nathan was the victim. Yes. Nathan telling. That's what I meant.
Isabella: Not Yeah.
Dad: What's his face?
Isabella: So by the end of the episode, we see that Luke is gonna kind of remove himself, which I think was the first thing that he did correctly. There was one quote that I wrote down that from Luke talking to Nathan asking him, will you still give me a chance to be your bro?
Dad: Probably not.
Isabella: Yeah. I don't think Nathan even responded. Think he just kind of ignored the question. And then the last note I have is Cooper being allergic to peanuts. Shout out my little brother.
He was allergic to peanuts for, like, a few years. And trying to just, like, push through it. What are you doing? Like, no need to you can drop the tough guy act when you're having an allergic reaction and your throat is closing up. Like, I promise you, it's it's okay.
You don't need to be a tough guy right now.
Dad: I didn't take it as him trying to be a tough guy. It was more of he didn't wanna be a bother to everyone, and he didn't want to be taken out and not be working because that would fall on somebody else. And he did say that he's had it happen before, and he's been able to work through it. But, yes, it's it's having anaphylactic shock is something that I'm paranoid about, not personally for
Isabella: me. Brush off.
Dad: Right. Right. To the point that when I go out hunting, I, for a long time, carried an EpiPen even for somebody else because I don't know that I'm allergic to anything, but you might find out at the wrong time that you suddenly are allergic to a bee sting or something. And so Yeah. For him to be as only taking what was it?
Benadryl and hoping that that would work. Right? I I probably would have been taking the Benadryl and then stabbing myself with the EpiPen pretty quickly thereafter because it's one of those things that
Isabella: if you start to find somebody
Dad: to fix yourself. You're you're toast.
Isabella: Yeah. Yeah. I thought it was crazy that they didn't have an EpiPen on him, period, if he has a peanut allergy. Like
Dad: Right. I would think that not only telling the chef that you have a peanut allergy, that would be something that everyone on the ship would know about, and they would know where his EpiPen is. Because calling for someone to come on a boat to to give him medical treatment, it might it might be too late.
Isabella: Yeah. That could have ended a lot worse. Like, I think it's good that he had some Benadryl on him. If not, who knows? But Right.
That is all I had for below deck med. So Same. Let's do Atlanta real quick. It's not wasn't a great episode. Be honest.
I know you probably agree. They're still in Scotland. The at the beginning of the episode, Shamea, who had left because she had an argument with Porsha, she kind of came back out joined the group. And as soon as she showed up, half of the group, Porsha, Drew, and their little crew, they left. Thought that was a little bit petty, but whatever.
Shamea telling Cynthia that she still sees PJ, who is Porsha's daughter, through Dennis. Just, like, oh. Just that's a sketchy situation. I don't know how that's gonna go.
Dad: I'm just waiting for a reboot of that show.
Isabella: Of of Atlanta?
Dad: Yes. I just Oh,
Isabella: well, I I kinda feel like they've been trying to they've been trying to do mini reboots every season, and it hasn't really it's not gonna work until they bring back NeNe Leakes. I mean, that's just what's gonna happen or what's gonna have to happen. I had, like, two other comments. I I like to see Porsha and Phaedra's friend Phaedra's friendship, but two, I think it was Shamea's point. I don't think that they really hang out outside of the TV show.
Like, this whole freaking frack thing, I love it for the show. I don't think it's real. But Porsha got Phaedra a gift for her birthday that she has a title, lady of the glen now. So I guess she's gonna join the countess in the group of Bravo celebrities with royal is is it royal titles or no? It's title.
Dad: It probably is. Like was real when she was married is my understanding.
Isabella: Yeah. Well, I I liken it to and maybe you wouldn't get this, but Scott Disick, who is the father of Kourtney Kardashian's kids. He was named a lord just for fun. So he goes by Lord Disick now. I kinda think it's the same kind of thing, that they think that that's real, but it's probably not.
Dad: To me, it's the one of wherever you go online, and then you can pay to have a star named after you. I I mean, it's it's a joke.
Isabella: They're buying those stars. Or, like, sponsor a penguin. Right. And then I also noticed that Phaedra taking the ladies to a cemetery. Weird.
And then she's like hanging on all like this cemetery guy. What are their names? The cemetery guys. Grave diggers or whatever they call them? Well, Phaedrus hanging all over this guy walking through the cemetery, and it really reminded me of how she was hanging all over CT when she was on The Traitors.
So I just wrote that down. Maybe she tends to hang on random men.
Dad: I don't know. She's a mortician, so that maybe that explains some of her fascination with death.
Isabella: Well, yeah. That completely explains it. I I get where she's coming from there. It's just still weird. So that's all I got for Atlanta.
I think we're almost done with it. I just yeah. I'm over it too.
Dad: Yep. I
Isabella: think the last couple we have Oh, correct. We got In the City reunion and The Valley. Right?
Dad: Sure. Pick which one.
Isabella: Okay. I don't have much on In the City reunion. My biggest thing is I it's just so weird how now Kyle is gonna be nice to Amanda. When they were married, he was not like, he the things that he says about Amanda at this reunion is the nicest thing he said to her in years, in in my opinion.
Dad: Right.
Isabella: Yeah. So the weird the the nicest he's been to her in years. So I think it's weird because why are you being so nice to her after she is, like, now dating your one of your friend I don't know. It's the whole situation's weird. Kyle and Salley are weird.
I mean, they're a couple kind of now. I don't know if I see that.
Dad: And Amanda suggesting that there would be a double date opportunity. I thought that was weird.
Isabella: Yeah. It's all weird. It's all so weird. Lindsay's still dating around. She is still seeing the milkman that was on the season, but clearly that's not anything serious.
Now the big thing I had for this is during the season when the single mom thing came up, I was very, very much on the side of Lindsay and Georgina, I think is this.
Dad: Yeah.
Isabella: I was very much on their side because I was like, you don't you you just don't say that. Like, you you should probably not say anything negatively about being a single mother. Not that with the not that that was Whitney's intention, but I'm a little bit more on Whitney's side now because I felt that she gave a really genuine apology. At least it came off that way to me. Lindsay comes back with kind of disregarding all of that, and she she's I love Lindsay Hubbard.
She's great for TV. She's so dramatic. Like, saying you almost threw up when you saw it, saying you cried about it for six months, maybe all true. I just feel like it's a stretch. Love you, Lindsay, but it's kind of a stretch.
And Whitney clearly is torn up about it, and she regrets it. I mean, that's very clear. So what are we doing?
Dad: Right. I think that one thing most people learn when they've been on these shows for a long time, that at some point when someone apologizes, even if you don't believe it, and I agree with you, I thought that Whitney's apology was heartfelt and sincere. But even if you don't believe it, you just suck it up and yeah. Right. You suck it up and say, okay.
Accept your apology. But then she basically said you're gonna have to apologize 18 more times and and do something else, which is just ridiculous.
Isabella: Yeah. I mean, it's it's Lindsay doesn't have to forgive that girl. We've seen it so many times on reality TV when they're like, okay. We'll just agree to disagree. But I feel like Lindsay kind of went in with this whole speech planned.
And Whitney's genuine apology, she wasn't gonna change course. Like, she was not gonna change course even a little bit. She was gonna get what she wanted to get out regardless.
Dad: Right.
Isabella: But still love Lindsay. She's great.
Dad: I didn't have anything else to add for in the city other than I wrote down that Lindsay is super annoying. I'm just so I think that's consistent with what we've just been talking about.
Isabella: Yeah. Valid. Valid. I have, like, two things from the Valley. I think I mentioned it last episode.
This show is not good. The Valley is not a good show. It should be canceled. Okay. With that being said, we saw Luke and Kristen in couples therapy.
And Luke, you're on a run right now of some nasty, nasty things said. I think I mentioned last week what he said about Janet saying, clearly, like, I'm not surprised she changed her story about her, like, sexual assault. And now she he's telling it he's saying to Kristen's face that, oh, well, yeah, we got engaged. I hadn't met pregnant Kristen at that point. Just brutal.
Just brutal thing to say to your future wife. Oh, especially if you wanna have more kids.
Dad: I I get what you're saying, but I don't think he meant it that way because everyone knows that part of the problem is he's having a hard time dealing with how she acts because of postpartum. And he's not saying it's wrong to have postpartum. He just wants people to recognize that it's not easy to be the one dealing with it, especially because he has his own issues. And he just kind of distilled that down into a very short sentence that comes across as very callous to say I hadn't met pregnant what's her name again? Kristen.
I hadn't met pregnant Kristen yet, which is a 100% true and consistent with what he's been saying. It's just he said it in a way that's hard to receive. But, anyway, I agree it came across as not good, but I also get where he's coming from.
Isabella: Yeah. I I agree that I I know what he was trying to do. But, yeah, he should have considered what he was saying before that.
Dad: The only thing I have from the show was the Chili's luncheon when they were doing it. And I I ran across something online that obviously other people had the same view as I thought, oh, this is, wow, a really obvious product placement opportunity because in general, yes, they'll show the the location and make clear that they're gonna give some credit to the venue where they're having lunches or dinners or whatever. That's across reality television. But to say the name of the restaurant in advance of where you're going so many times and then name some of the items on the menu when you sit down to have it, it leads people to think that it's a product placement opportunity. But I saw some of the cast members did respond and say, this clearly wasn't a product placement because number one, we love the Chili's in, I think they said maybe Encino or something.
And it's not a good look for Chili's to have the situation where the guy went to the bathroom, and I'll leave it at that. But still very weird. Maybe they meant for it to be a product placement. It just didn't land well because he had a accident in the restroom, which wasn't caused by the food. He hadn't eaten yet, but still not a great look.
Isabella: I kinda forgot what you were talking about with the bathroom thing for a second, but now I'm remembering. I I could see it being either because it was Janet's idea to go to Chili's. If you remember, Janet also brought the whole group to Dave and Buster's for her birthday. Oh, you're right. Now could you say that that was a sponsorship too?
Possibly. But I think that Janet also made a point to say she grew up in, like, Middle America. Like, she went to Cheesecake Factory and Chili's and, like, Cracker Barrel growing up. She feels very much at home in chain restaurants. So, yes, I think you have a point that maybe they did get sponsorships from this or what I don't even know what you call it when it's a TV show, but brand deals.
I don't know. But maybe, but also I could see it not. I think that she just is weird about chains.
Dad: Well, I think it us talking about this supports your opening point that the show is not that great, and the fact that we're focusing on something so
Isabella: is
Dad: not supportive of the show being ripe for continuation. The only thing I think the show has going for it is the reunion will come up. And then like a lot of these shows, the reunion is the best part of the entire season. And for one that has a season that's been so lame, it's it's gotta shine. It's it's got a very low threshold of improvement.
Isabella: Yeah. And I to your point with the reunion, I think that I think Kristen's gonna have a problem at the reunion because Kristen is very much team Nia and Danny and very much anti Janet. And Kristen was not at this Chili's luncheon, but she is saying that, oh, Zach and Lacy, who Lacy is Jesse's girlfriend, saying Zach and Lacy were texting me the whole time saying, oh my gosh. I can't believe I have to be here with Janet that Lacy was, like, having a panic attack walking in because she didn't wanna be there with Janet. And Kristen's saying this to Lala .
La la is like, Kristen, you're majorly throwing your friends under the bus right now. So I am interested to see how that plays out, like, if it's all if they all kinda gang up on Kristen now or if Kristen's able to wiggle herself out of that. I don't know. But that, I guess, I'm interested in. But, really, that was my only point also.
So I think that's all I got.
Dad: Yep. Okay. Well, we were going to do the game, but we'll do it next week. We'll plan better and have the pictures in hand. And as always, if you have suggestions about shows that we're we are missing, let us know.
Oh, before I forget, I had reached out to you. I strongly encourage you to watch that Lilith Fair documentary. I think you'll really like it. It's definitely called Building
Isabella: a Mystery,
Dad: and it's on Hulu. And I think you would really like it, especially because it talks about how women were treated differently in the music industry. This was kind of a pioneering event where it was a summer festival. Sarah McLachlan started it. And I was in my twenties at that time and I poo pooed the whole idea.
I thought, oh my gosh, this is just I I talked down about it and didn't go. And it's one of the things after watching the documentary, I look back and think, wow, I really missed out. Because the music is insane. The women that they had on those tours, just amazing. And I think you would like it, especially because it shows women power kind of stuff in that industry and how they had to fight to get to where they were.
None of the big sponsors were covering them. They were kind of doing it all on their own. That's a great one. But I I encourage you. And look, if you watch that documentary and like it, then we'll talk about it on an episode.
Isabella: Okay. Well, while while we're there, I watched a documentary last night. By the way, I'll add it to the list. Noted. I watched a documentary last night on Netflix called I think it was called A Toxic Love Story.
Let me just verify that.
Dad: I think that's right.
Isabella: Yeah. A Toxic Love Story. You said you started it. I'm so I'm not gonna give a spoiler here, but basically, it starts with a US marshal and his wife, his pregnant wife. They are getting harassed by his ex girlfriend.
Dad: By email only?
Isabella: Out by email only. So it's an hour and a half, one episode documentary. The way it begins, you kind of have an idea in your head of how it's gonna go, and it doesn't go that way at all. There are a couple twists, so it kept me it definitely kept me interested. I enjoyed it.
It wasn't the best documentary I've ever seen, but it I thought it was well done, and it was short enough. You know, a lot of these documentaries these days, it's, like, 10 episode series. So I really appreciate when there's, like, a short enough documentary that gets it all in there, and then I'm done.
Dad: Was the one that we both watched where it had the ultimate twist at the end? It was the the daughter that was getting harassed and bullied. Wait.
Isabella: What is called? What is that called? Unknown Number, the high school catfish.
Dad: Okay. Yeah.
Isabella: That That was was a good I also watched, and I think a lot of people know of this one too, Maternal Instinct on Netflix. Brutal, brutal, brutal trigger trigger trigger warning. If
Dad: Yes.
Isabella: Like, that was brutal to watch. Horrible.
Dad: But Yep.
Isabella: It was good.
Dad: Okay. Well, so that's one of the things that Isabelle and I have talked about is bringing in documentaries and then just weighing in on them so that we expand the audience. It's another thing that she and I talk about periodically. It's not just reality television. So
Isabella: Yeah. I don't I don't know how much we'd ever, like, dive super deep into these because I wouldn't wanna spoil it for people, but even just like recommendations.
Dad: Right.
Isabella: Right. So if anyone We will take recommendations
Dad: Please.
Isabella: From our audience as well. So please send us a message if you think we'd like something and if you'd like us to discuss it on the next episode.
Dad: Great. Other than that, thanks for listening, and we'll see you next week.
Isabella: Thanks for listening. That's our episode. Thanks for hanging out with us.
Dad: Thanks for listening.
Isabella: If you like the show, leave us a rating or a comment. It helps more than you think. Follow us wherever you're listening and on social media at Check Me Boomer.
Dad: And tell a friend who'd get it. See you next week.
