Lisa Barlow "I get invited to the Oscars all the time", HBO's A Killer Story and Luann's Halloween Party

Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip nears its finale as Isabella recaps Luann's Halloween party in New York for Dad, who missed the episode: a mentalist, Teresa on saxophone, Lisa Barlow's rap, Alex McCord's Raygun tribute, and Porsha arriving two hours late. On RHONY, Erin brings up Hailey's past with Jon Gosselin and Sai opens up about her marriage. On RHOSLC, Lisa claims regular Oscars invitations, Angie's toothbrush gifts take aim at Quai, and Whitney lands in the middle again.

The father and daughter also review HBO's A Killer Story, a three-part docuseries about a Kansas double murder, a dogged investigative journalist, and a couple who sold their farm to fight a conviction. On Below Deck Med, Chef Joy steals scenes, Cooper still hasn't been straight with Kat, and Joe makes amends with Nathan.

Dad gives his boomer take on this season of Survivor and on Special Forces, and Isabella previews what's coming up on Bravo and beyond.

Dad: Good morning, Isabella.

Isabella: Good morning, dad. How are we doing?

Dad: Great. Welcome everyone to episode 17. Today is October 4?

Isabella: Question mark.

Dad: Question mark. What do you want to run through today?

Isabella: We have the usuals, Ultimate Girls Trip, Below Deck, RHONY and RHOSLC. And then we also both watched the documentary on, is it HBO? Yes. Called A Killer Story.

Dad: Okay.

Isabella: So I didn't take a ton of notes on that, but I know you'd...

Dad: I do have quite a few.

Isabella: Do we want to start with that?

Dad: Sure. Okay. I will start with the brief background of what it's about. It's a double murder in Kansas from years ago. I've forgotten how many years ago.

Isabella: Yeah.

Dad: And the setting is this investigative journalist from someplace in the East Coast gets pinged by a housewife in Kansas who's kind of a true crime aficionado, begging him to investigate this murder for which a woman was convicted and sent to prison, I think, for life.

Isabella: Mhmm.

Dad: And I just start off by thinking how awesome this reporter guy is. He cusses, he smokes, he drinks, and at some point later in the show I realize there's an interesting juxtaposition between him and then this housewife and her husband, and how kind of prim and proper and religious they are. I don't know that they cuss or drink or smoke, at least they don't show on documentary. But the couple includes a guy who was a trash man. He hauled trash for the city, and he had a contract.

He got into a dispute. He sued the city, won, became an attorney, and then he and his wife pretty much dedicate their life, or their lives, to getting this woman's conviction overturned, and at the same time finding out who was the actual killer, if you believe them that she didn't do it. They went so far as to sell their 500 acre farm to fund her appeal. And it just is amazing that how much effort they will go to try to help this woman based on their belief that she was innocent. They had no connection to

Isabella: her whatsoever.

Dad: Was going to

Isabella: say, they did not know this Not woman,

Dad: at all. At least until they got into this and then they became very close with her. I'm not going to give away to really anything, but it's a roller coaster of, okay. I think I know this, and then wait a minute. Maybe it's not that.

Isabella: You mean in terms of how you were feeling watching it?

Dad: Exactly. Exactly. And it's it's very well made. Right? They do break the fourth wall where you can hear the reporter asking questions behind the camera, or sometimes in front of the camera, but the questions he asked were very pointed.

He did not pull punches. It, to me, was just fascinating because of him. You know, I've told you on a prior podcast and outside of this that my secret dream is to be able to have enough money to become an investigative journalist and just tear people apart, like find people who are stealing from the public or lying. Usually those go hand in hand. Yeah.

And then catching them. And this guy just, he he goes all in on this, but he still remains skeptical, as any good journalist does. And that gets to some of the questions that he asks one person who is alleged to have been the quote real killer, but then also asking that same couple at one point. Right? Are you sure that you know what you're talking about essentially?

I'm leaving it out. Not the specific details. But he also said one quote that I had to pause and rewind and look at closed caption just to make sure I got it exactly right. And at this point, we have entered the pantheon of effing all time true crime sagas. And it was just...

It was an amazing twist. There are quite a few twists in the documentary. I don't wanna give them away. But I'm fascinated with the process, the documentary, how it was made, that guy, the two people, and just an interesting snapshot about real life people and the complexities that we all... Or some people encounter.

Isabella: Yeah. I thought... I mean, I thought it was good, for sure. I... It wasn't as heavy as I thought it would be for a murder trial, you know?

Like, I feel like they didn't really go over the details of the trial as much as I thought they would. They definitely gave us enough to know, like, what they're basing this conviction on. But I also thought what was interesting is usually these documentaries make it very clear who they want you to believe did it.

Dad: Right.

Isabella: And this one did not. I still don't know who did it. I am leaning towards that ex wife that this couple is trying to protect so much, but also there is reasonable doubt there, so it's tough. I finished the documentary, and I was like, I don't know who did it. I have no idea who did it.

Dad: Right, and that's maybe one good thing. It's not giving it away, but I guess somewhat it is giving some of it away in that if you only like documentaries where at the end it's definitive and everything is cleaned up and wrapped up in a nice bow, this is not one of those.

Isabella: Yeah. I know you like those too.

Dad: Right. But it's... It was also made over a very long time period, the patience of that journalist to go and be in Kansas for so long and how long he had to spend... And I'm sure that he thought at various times, okay, I'm done, And then something else happens. And I also, as a recovering lawyer, am just fascinated by watching the...

I never litigated, but watching the actual trials in the courtroom. And you could see the journalist and that couple in the gallery for much of the testimony.

Isabella: Yeah. Even from way back... Again, we don't know what year this happened, but it's been a while. And they even show her, the wife, in the courthouse during the very beginning of the trial.

Dad: Yes.

Isabella: She's been there the entire time.

Dad: Right. Right. Anyway, I think it's a great documentary for those who like true crime. It's worth it, especially if you like journalists like I do.

Isabella: Yeah. It was good. It was good. It wasn't one of my favorites of the year, but it was good. And it it was only three episodes.

They weren't too long. Like, it wasn't like a 10... Like, I don't think I I could've done 10 episodes of the same story, but it was good. I enjoyed it.

Dad: Great. Alright, you wanna move on to Ultimate Girls Trip?

Isabella: Yeah, let's do Ultimate Girls Trip. And I feel like this has been so long ago, but I did have quite a few notes on this episode. They're still in New York, and they're doing Luann's... Was it a Halloween party?

Dad: Yes.

Isabella: Okay. Yeah. Lots happened in this episode. I mean, pretty much the whole episode was this party. Well, first off, there were...

I mean, there were a bunch of people there that I think I probably mentioned last episode, but Chanel Ayan kept calling Dorinda Ramona. That was funny. There was this mentalist there. I guess that's what they call it, a mentalist. He's not a magician.

But, oh, my gosh, Teresa. This guy asked Teresa to think of somebody that's from her childhood or something that's near and dear to her and write it down, and she could not do it. She did not. She was not comprehending what he was asking her to do. She was like, I don't know.

I can't. And then Luann gets up there and levitates.

Dad: Oh my gosh. What... I'm just realizing that I missed this entire episode. Oh my gosh. Keep going.

Keep going.

Isabella: Okay. Then I'll just recap it, guess.

Dad: Yeah.

Isabella: Sorry. Chanel Ayan to Luann's levitating goes, That man would be burning in my village, which I thought was funny. Porsha's so late. She says she's stuck behind an ambulance. She has to get out and walk to the party.

Meanwhile... And it's kind of going back and forth between the party and Porsha. And Luann starts to give this speech, this long, long speech. She says something about everybody except for Gizelle. She didn't say anything nice about Gizelle in her speech.

So Gizelle calls Porsha and is like, Turn around. You shouldn't come. Chanel, Ayan again, and pretty much all the other women at this point. Gizelle also are trying to tell Luann, You're talking too much. Like, Give it a rest.

It's been like thirty minutes of you speaking now. And then Porsha finally shows up, and Luann is still on the mic giving a speech when Porsha And shows so Luann immediately calls her out and goes, There's Porsha, two hours late. And then we have this talent show.

Dad: Okay.

Isabella: Where Teresa gets on the saxophone, and she struggles for a minute. Like, she's really trying, and everyone's kind of silent, like, looking around like, And then she finally gets it, and she's playing. And there were judges, I guess. They all gave her tens. And then we have Lisa Barlow rapping.

She made up a rap about all the women. Vicki's talent was funny. Vicki's talent was ranting, like just giving an angry rant, which is good for think

Dad: that she would kill that.

Isabella: She did kind of kill it. And then we have Alex McCord

Dad: Yes.

Isabella: From OG RHONY come out. All the other women are like, Why is she coming out? She's not in our group. She was at the party, but the talent show was for the women on the cast of Ultimate Girls Trip. But Alex McCord comes out dancing with shoes on her hands.

I think it was a reference to the Herman Munster shoes. And she's dancing like Raygun from... And I don't even know if you know which

Dad: Oh, from the Olympics. The Australian rapper or No, breakdancer.

Isabella: The Australian breakdancer from the Olympics. She's dancing like her, and everyone's kind of looking like... I really know what's going on here, but okay. Oh, Jessel. Jessel had a funny line when this was happening.

She goes, God, I'm glad I didn't eat mushrooms before this. So this episode is really kind of a... Like, Luann is kind of awful. I know we love Luann, but she is kind of the worst in this episode. They get all together to take a picture, and Luann wants to jump in front of the whole group and say, Oh, it's my city.

I should be in the front. And Gizelle calls her out for blocking everybody, because she gets in front of two people. Gizelle's like, You're blocking us.

Dad: Right. If you're gonna get in front, get down low.

Isabella: Yeah. And so Luann takes that very offensively and goes upstairs crying, and she's She's not

Dad: a big crier in the history of this show.

Isabella: She's not. She's not. And I don't know if there were tears crying, but she's very much whining about it, very upset. She then says, I do not want to be the center of attention. Okay.

Dad: Sure.

Isabella: Gizelle... I know we've talked about Gizelle's kind of reactions the whole time. Yep. That was a good one. When Luann said...

She was like, what? For those who aren't watching, I gave kind of her face with the big eyes. I'm like, what?

Dad: No one's watching because this is audio only.

Isabella: Correct. Fair point. I'm thinking of my other podcast that I watch where they're like, for audio only listeners. Whereas that's that's all Yeah. We Right.

Good point. Gizelle and Vicki are kinda chatting about how much this party sucks. Gizelle goes, This party's whack. Vicki says, One out of 10, this party was a flop. I think...

Dad: Was it at a good location, or do you remember?

Isabella: I have no idea. Okay. I mean, they're in New York. It could be anywhere. So a bunch of them left.

I think it was definitely Gizelle and Vicki and Porsha and maybe Kyle too. Not all of them left, but Luann is still there. She's telling... She's going around to this party telling every single person, even the producers. Like, they broke the fourth wall a little bit because she's talking to producers about how Porsha was so late.

She was two hours late. I mean, shows it over and over and over again. Oh, my gosh. Can you believe Porsha was two hours late? I mean, how rude.

I can't believe that. Just over and over again. And then we fast forward to the next day, where Luann is FaceTiming Dorinda and is like, I can't believe I was treated so horribly in my own city. But then they get on the bus to go to the Berkshires, which is going to be a pretty long bus ride, I believe. And Porsha calls out Luann and go...

Or I guess Luann's probably said something to Porsha first, like, Well, I mean, you were late for my party. And Porsha goes, Well, Luann, you've been obnoxious. Like, you've been very obnoxious, Luann. And Luann goes, Well, I'm sorry you feel that way.

Dad: That's a pretty good impersonation.

Isabella: Yeah. Not bad. I'm not good at impressions, but not bad. And Lisa is coming to Luann's defense here.

Dad: Okay.

Isabella: And Porsha's kinda getting on Lisa for enabling Luann. So right now, it's it's Porsha and Gizelle against Luann and Lisa. And Gizelle keep... I guess Luann is like, I don't wanna talk about this right. I don't wanna do this right now.

And Gizelle's like, This isn't done, and we have a long ride to the Berkshires.

Dad: Oh, wow.

Isabella: So that's kind of the cliffhanger we get, is that how is this ride gonna get... Like, it's gonna be another sprinter van blow up, I think.

Dad: Wow. Do we know how many episodes are left?

Isabella: I think this one tonight is the last one. Okay. Because I'm Yeah. Pretty sure that first year's They could split it in two. Yeah.

Okay. I think tonight is episode nine. So if it's a ten season episode, that would make sense.

Dad: Yeah. They usually try to keep it even numbers. I've noticed it just seems odd.

Isabella: Yeah.

Dad: Nine might be perfect, but they end up making it 10 or eight.

Isabella: Yeah. I can't believe... Okay. I'm gonna break our fourth wall a little bit here. Can't believe you didn't watch this show, and you almost missed RHOSLC too.

Dad: I know. Well, as you know, I've had some travel for family stuff, but I had in my notes Ultimate Girls Trip, meh, as my only comment. Must be

Isabella: for last didn't forget or you didn't remember it.

Dad: And I keep separate notes for each of our episodes. Sorry about this, but I will watch it at least to keep you up to... You know, to get back up to speed.

Isabella: Yeah. I mean, I pretty much gave you the entire recap.

Dad: I know, but it would have been better if I had seen it, so apologies to you and the audience.

Isabella: That's okay. You're forgiven.

Dad: Know we're not covering Survivor, but I did watch it because you've been watching it, and I just Are you

Isabella: caught up or did you just watch the first one?

Dad: I am caught up, but I will give you my old man boomer comments. Everyone on the show is so completely annoying to me. They're so excited, and I they just can't get over get it.

Isabella: Got to give it time for that to wear off.

Dad: Right, but keep in mind that this shit... This is the fifty first season, so it's gone on forever, and I just am over it. Everyone's constantly smiling, and I keep wanting to fast forward to when they're all tired and dirty and It's coming. My gosh. We're dying out here.

As opposed to like, Oh my gosh, Jeff. Am such a fan. It's just gets so disgusting. Then there were some... The the catchphrase that Jeff Probst said is permanent uncertainty.

I'm like, oh my god, come on. That's so desperate. It's like permanent thirsty or something like that. Just... I'm so sick of it.

And then the worst part about it, I I might have said this in a prior episode, is his play by play during the challenges. Seriously, do I have to hear you talk about this is how you do it on Survivor? No, you said that 25 times last season. Come on, I'm sick of it. So I will watch it.

Your mom likes it. I'll suffer through it, but I'm just... I'm done. And look, I get it. If they had fifty one seasons of RHONY, I might be similarly sick of them too.

Isabella: Yeah. Fair.

Dad: And I haven't even watched all fifty one seasons of Survivor. Okay. That's the end of Grandpa.

Isabella: Well, have a couple... Since... Let me respond to a couple The of things you Jeff Probst thing, I feel like when it comes to the Survivor fandom, I feel like people are split, and half of people... Maybe not half. I don't know what the numbers are.

I mean, I don't keep track of it. I feel like a lot of people love him, and a lot of people can't stand him.

Dad: I think he's fine as a person. Just am sick of the routine.

Isabella: It has been a long time. I don't know what he could do, to be honest.

Dad: It's not him. It's the producers.

Isabella: It's not him. He's doing his job. I do... But I also don't disagree with what you're saying. Like, does get very repetitive at certain points, and it's like he's trying to make it more dramatic than it is.

But at the same time, if if there's a show that's been on for fifty one seasons, and, like, some of these people have been watching it for their entire lives, I can kind of understand their excitement for final... Especially, I'm sure some of these people have been signing up for this show for years.

Dad: Oh, one lady said she applied for twenty six years.

Isabella: Right. So I can understand that once you're finally there, you are really excited. But I also agree with you that I'm ready for that to kind of fade. Right. And for them to not suffer, but really be into the game.

Similar to what I... Back to what I said last week with I do think they're going a little more old school. What I also like is the immunity idols are just immunity idols now. I think if anyone who watched Survivor for the last, I don't know, ten or so years knows that you find what you think is an immunity idol, and there's a note saying, Beware, Advantage. And you have to do all these things to finally get the idol.

Now it's just, you find it, and it's yours.

Dad: Right.

Isabella: And that's it.

Dad: I do like that part.

Isabella: And just the two tribes, I like. I really do wish they would go back to thirty nine days, but I also understand it's probably very expensive and...

Dad: Oh, how many days is it now?

Isabella: I don't... It might be like nineteen.

Dad: Okay.

Isabella: It's it's not thirty nine anymore.

Dad: Okay.

Isabella: So I think that's a big part of why it's maybe not as intense. But I also understand that maybe they don't have capacity to do that anymore. I don't know. I also miss when they would go to different places. Like, really isn't...

I guess Fiji works great for them, but I miss...

Dad: They probably have the infrastructure nailed down and...

Isabella: Oh, yeah. For sure. Yep. I think they have a whole Survivor Island Island where it's just survivor people there.

Dad: That makes sense. But... All right. Before we go to one other, I do want to mention a show that I know you're not watching, but we have watched prior seasons. Special Forces just one...

Or two comments. One, Brandi Glanville. I had no idea that that was her.

Isabella: She's had a tough time.

Dad: Yeah. I I just... Even after we watched it, I said, wait. Are you just... To your mom, wait.

That was Brandi Glanville? She said, yes. I thought you knew. So she doesn't last very long. And

then...

Isabella: Oh, she doesn't. I guess that shouldn't surprise

Dad: her. And then George Santos. What a disgusting per... I can't believe that he is on the show. I know that they put people on there that need rehab for their personas or their public image, but this guy is just irredeemable.

Maybe he will come back,

Isabella: He doesn't but seem like the fittest guy either.

Dad: No. No. And he fully acknowledges it, and they call him out on it. But he gets interviewed in the first episode, you know, where the staff that they call them pull them in with a black and then give them a hard time and start asking questions. One of the guys, one of the former Special Forces guys, I think the one that's from the British SAS says, I have friends who didn't get a second chance because of people like you, which I thought was, wow.

What a zinger. Hats off to that guy. Okay. That's enough of that show.

Isabella: Well, I wanna say I normally really like that show. I just... I wasn't moved by the cast this year, and we've got so many other shows that we're watching, football, plus MLB playoffs. Anyways.

Dad: Okay. Alright, what do want to do, below deck?

Isabella: Yeah, let's do below deck. Again, I don't have a ton, but...

Dad: Neither do I.

Isabella: Joy is amaze... I just love Joy. She's one of the better chefs they've had in a while.

Dad: Agreed. Not like I've eaten her food, but it certainly comes across that way.

Isabella: Well, in personality Yes. Like, she's funny, she's fun. I like her. She's talking about Gen and how Gen is suddenly nice and happy. And she goes, did she get possessed by a zombie?

Dad: She's French, so she's mixing up probably

Isabella: the the the thing about Joy is her French accent makes everything funnier.

Dad: Of

Isabella: course. Like, it's... So I can't even... I'm not I'm not gonna try and do the impression, but Gen also apologized to Kaylee, of course. And Kaylee was shocked, and she took it pretty well.

She was like, I'm really glad she did that. Like, I feel a lot better now. So they seemed to be okay. Oh back to joy again. She...

This is so minor, but she was, like, making something for these guys, the big guys that need all this protein. And she's kind of mixing together, like, raw beef and something, and she takes a bite of it, and then she looks directly into the camera. Like, she... I was like, Woah. Hello, Joy.

I think it's funny when they when they break the fourth wall like that and just look directly into the camera. Oh, and then they had her Google, I guess this is not as funny out loud when I say it, but they had her Google on there, question about protein, like how much protein

Dad: you need a how much does someone who's training as a big man?

Isabella: Yeah, big muscular... How much protein does big muscular man need per day? Or however she put that

Dad: was It was just 200 grams, which is quite a bit.

Isabella: That does sound like a lot. I don't know what's a lot, but that sure sounds like a lot. Okay, Cooper. Coward. Coward Cooper.

He still hasn't been honest with Clearly, Kat really likes him, is expecting they're gonna go on vacation together afterwards. Cooper's already like, Oh, we should have Joe come with us. I think it's multiple things. Kat isn't taking any of any of the hints that he's dropping, and he also isn't being clear about his intentions.

Dad: Right. So... He's being clear to the cameras in Which

Isabella: is embarrassing for him, Like, Are you scared of her? What is the issue? Just be honest.

Dad: Yeah. I don't quite understand.

Isabella: I mean, I guess to a certain extent I understand that you have to live with her for a couple more days, and maybe he'll finally be honest once they're done with the show.

Dad: Well, and he's pretty young, right? Isn't he like 21 or something or 22?

Isabella: He's a little... They're both in their 20s, but Either way though, I don't like it how you're saying one thing to the camera and then not telling her that.

Dad: Right.

Isabella: It just irritates me.

Dad: But then it's also never clear when these confessionals are filmed. Guess is that at the end of the season, that's when they film them, so he might be backfilling a little bit. I can't imagine that they have the time or the studio space to do these confessionals while they're on the boat, but I don't know.

Isabella: I don't know. That's a good question. Because Okay. They might. I don't know.

Oh, Joe is like... Sandy's giving Joe more advice to go make amends with Nathan. So he goes and... I mean, he's trying. It seems like he's trying.

Dad: It did seem sincere.

Isabella: I... Yeah. I took it as sincere from Joe. And then Nathan kind of responded fine, then you again see his confessional, and Nathan's just so nasty. He will not take it, but Joe feels better, it appears.

Joe got whatever it was off his chest.

Dad: Yes. He said he took weight off of his shoulders or

Isabella: something Yeah. Like And I guess that's what Sandy was trying to tell him, was you'll feel a lot better if you just get this off your chest. And then we had yet another guest injury. Is the last Lots of blood.

Dad: The guy is running around... They're running around and doing stuff on the slides, and one guy runs to go jump and go down the slide, and he hits his head on the ceiling of the boat, and it cuts open his head, and there's all this consternation, like, I'm bleeding, I'm bleeding. They show blood on the floor, and it just rubbed me the wrong way because one of my fixations is how few people actually know how to deal with a cut or where you're bleeding. The good news is eventually they start... They tell them, like, just keep pressure on it.

Just keep pressure on it. So this is the PSA of the audience. When you have an open wound, don't keep looking at it. That's so dumb. Put pressure on it and keep it on it.

And when someone says, Let me see, say, No. No, I'm keeping credit. Every time he pulled the bandage away to show someone, it would start bleeding again because you didn't keep pressure on it. So was just personally annoyed at them.

Isabella: Yeah. This reminds me of back to Survivor though. Can we talk about that guy that basically chopped the tip of his thumb off and they showed it on camera?

Dad: Yes.

Isabella: They showed the tip of his thumb still on the axe or whatever. I'm like, oh, God. Yeah.

Dad: That was...

Isabella: Unsettling.

Dad: Yes. I was surprised he stayed in.

Isabella: Me too. Well, I mean, we'll see. You know things can get infected.

Dad: Right. Oh, definitely. In the jungle especially.

Isabella: In the jungle. Oh, and then to end that, Luke is coming to surprise Joy. Luke from earlier in the season who excused himself for reasons that I'm not gonna bring up again.

Dad: Right. That will be interesting.

Isabella: Yeah. Because Gen, I think, is... We see nice, happy Gen now, and I think we're... That's gonna... That's not gonna last No.

No. Once she sees Luke. She's gonna lose her mind. And that is all I got Okay. For Below Deck.

Dad: Let's do RHONY. Okay. Do want me to give you my comments first? Sure. I might jump in.

Isabella: Okay. Then because I might have some similar comments.

Dad: I think that Erin using tabloid stories as the basis for going after Hailey is ill advised. She should probably know what's reported in the tabloids is not always the full story. I don't know what the full story is

Isabella: for Yeah, we don't. We don't know.

Dad: But even if you assumed it was true, for her to continue to equate being referred to as Jam and saying, You came for me. You came for me. Right? Like, come on. If someone calling you Jam gets your hackles up so that you go all out nuclear war and saying that you're going to call her out for ending a marriage to someone who had eight kids, wow.

Okay. That's overkill, and I think it's gonna come back to haunt her. Yeah. And then a couple of other things. I can't remember, maybe it was Carole who said a couple things.

One, she prefers... Or maybe it was Sai, I prefer waspy holidays where people just keep their their suppress their emotions. Oh, it was the wrestler, the former wrestler lady who

Isabella: Oh, said okay. And I think her name is... No. I was gonna say Daisy, but that's Martha Stewart's. Oh gosh.

What is this girl's name?

Dad: I can't think of it. You might be able figure out before I finish. So she says, I prefer WASPY holidays where we just suppress all of our feelings, which hit home a little bit. I'm sure your mom was looking at me out of the side of her eye. Not that I'm WASPY, but our family suppresses things a lot.

Isabella: Do we? I feel like we

Dad: Not all this family, but the family I grew up with. At least that's what your mom says. And then Carole did say, when

Isabella: she

Dad: was referring to Jessel as a dingbat, she said that was the most polite thing I could say,

Isabella: That was even know,

Dad: you're giving dingbat lines. It could have been compared to idiot or a couple other things. And then here's the one thing that your mom and I talked about. When Sai was sharing how bad things were with her husband and the woman who's like kind of her pseudo mother or adopted mother sort of...

Isabella: I think her aunt.

Dad: Yeah. But she treats her as a, you know, the fifth child, think she said. She said, what really broke, the straw that broke the camel's back was when I was taken out to my birthday dinner and I found out that my husband used my credit card to pay for it. I looked at your mother and then I said, Wait, if that was

Isabella: So that a makes a little double standing.

Dad: Yeah. That was a man and the wife who, let's assume, doesn't have a job in this hypothetical, uses the credit card, how else is it gonna happen? And for all we know, maybe he also was not the breadwinner. Maybe he is unemployed or I think stays we home with know the

Isabella: he's not the breadwinner.

Dad: Okay. And so who did she think was going to pay for it? Did they keep separate accounts? I don't know. But even if it was, hey, it caught her off guard, they treat it like really serious.

Every... Oh, and then she relives the whole experience with one of the other cast members, not the Yeah. And, oh, that is. I think it was on Watch What Happens Live too. Like, Andy, come on.

What are you talking about? I looked at your mother and she said, Every gift I've ever gotten you has been paid for by your credit card because I don't work. Every dinner we I go out to am not upset about it. So it struck me as a little bit, like you said, of a double standard.

Isabella: Yeah. I think it's a little bit more nuanced than that. Yes, objectively is a double standard, but I think Si's issue with her husband, or one of the major issues, is that and I might not have the facts exactly correct, but I'm pretty sure he lost his job and didn't really get a new one. And maybe there are reasons for that, but from what I got from Sai, it seems like he wasn't really making an effort to get There a new could

Dad: be lot more to the story.

Isabella: And so I think maybe this specific birthday dinner, it was maybe a little bit more than just paying with her card, but maybe more reminding her of, Oh, yeah, I am the one paying for everything now, and he's not even really trying. He used to have a good job, and he doesn't really anymore, and I feel like he is kind of just riding on my coattails now. So I I see it both ways. It it is a double standard.

Dad: Well, and it could have been an edit. Right? She could have said just what you said, and all they said was they focused on the credit card, which

Isabella: Yeah.

Dad: By itself shouldn't be dispositive to this issue. Yeah. But, yes, I get it.

Isabella: And I mean, she did say it was it was the straw that broke the camel's back. So it wasn't like this wasn't the single reason that they're trying to get a divorce. It was just like kind of the last thing where Sai was like, this isn't really working working for me anymore.

Dad: Right.

Isabella: I wanna go back really quickly to the Hailey Erin thing and talk a little bit more about Hailey too. Hailey called Erin like a lying snake, which is fair. It's very defensive, but I mean, I agree with you that Erin bringing that up in comparison to her being called Jam is absolutely ridiculous. Like, those two things are not equal. But also, I mean, I don't think it's untrue.

I know tabloids are tabloids, but I'm pretty sure Hailey has kind of admitted that she got into this situation, and we see it a little bit more when she's talking with her mom about it.

Dad: Which was super awkward. Her mom got

Isabella: hurt. Her mom was bizarre. This was the weirdest scene of the episode. Hailey's mom is saying that she was traumatized. And by the way, this guy that we're talking about that has eight kids is Jon Gosselin from Jon plus Kate plus eight.

And we find out that Hailey's mom is the one who wanted Hailey to date this guy.

Dad: At age 17.

Isabella: Yeah. And then Hailey's mom is saying that she was traumatized. I just I'm not getting good energy at all from Hailey's mom. No. I think she's the fact that you are making yourself the victim when you started this too?

Like, you encouraged it and now you're playing victim?

Dad: Right. And the age thing, it's just there's so The age many is

Isabella: creepy. Yeah. Oh, God. Yeah. I don't...

This is a... And it's a weird mom. We've had some weird moms on these franchises. Bronwyn's mom comes to mind. But this one, yikes.

Also, I forgot to bring this up. The boxer girl, her name is Erika.

Dad: Okay. I'll try to remember that

Isabella: girl. And I was right with Daisy. Daisy's the makeup artist, and then Hailey, of course. Right. You already mentioned Carole said Jessel's a dingbat.

That was funny. Oh, Carole also kind of agreed with the fact that being called boring is not comparable to what Erin did. It just doesn't work. So Carole agrees with us on that.

Dad: Of course. You're right.

Isabella: Okay. The Sai... Oh, well, a couple things about Sai. Sai is getting super, super defensive over her luxury apartment, which I get what she's saying. If you have the money, of course you're gonna live in a luxury apartment with all the benefits and the sauna, whatever else she's talking about.

If she's made the money for that, then great. But she is super defensive over it, and she seems like she's projecting a little bit. She comes at Daisy saying, Well, you have a shopping addiction. Yeah, you may live in a rent controlled apartment, but you have a shopping addiction. Like, Okay, Sai.

It's okay that you live in a luxury apartment. You're allowed to.

Dad: My assumption is everyone on these shows, especially in the top tier cities, has a shopping addiction. Or if they didn't, they get one before they go on the show.

Isabella: Yeah. Yeah. Maybe not all of them, but I do think that there's a theme on these shows that... And I think some people have even come out and said it, where they feel like they have to keep up

Dad: Right. They with get a brand addiction, or they have to show their brands in order to feel like they're complete or adequate for the

Isabella: There was one woman that came out publicly and said, The need to feel like I belonged with these... Oh, it was one of the Beverly Hills women.

Dad: Okay.

Isabella: That she was like, I joined this group and I felt like I was so behind. I bought all these bags and now I forget who it was. One of the newer girls on Beverly Hills, but it doesn't matter. Oh, also with Sai. Really sad scene with her aunt.

Sai is kind of blaming herself for her recent mother's death because she told a story about how she kicked her mom out of the house because her mom was babysitting their kids when they were on vacation. And they came home, and the apartment was just destroyed, I guess, and she was just wasted drunk. And so they had to kick her out of the apartment. And then I guess her mom passed a month later. So Sai is clearly blaming herself, which she of course shouldn't, but that was Yep.

A tough

Dad: Yes.

Isabella: Okay. And then they are going to this, I guess, Off Broadway event Carole kind of invited them to. Jennifer Tilly appears out of nowhere from Beverly Hills. I love her. I think she's hilarious.

But Hailey... The first thing Hailey says when she sees Jennifer Tilly goes... She goes that... Or she tells her that she wants to play with her banjos. Pretty sure she was corrected by someone to Bongos, maybe by Jessel.

Dad: I think Erin was

Isabella: the Okay. She's like, I think you mean Bongos. But an insane thing to say to a woman you don't know and have never met before.

Dad: I don't know that a man could get away with doing that. I'm not saying that it's excusable in any, but they just kind of said, I think she messed up and was talking about the wrong words.

Isabella: You definitely could see that Jennifer Tilly, and I think Jennifer Tilly is very much go with... She's not very serious, but her face was like, Oh, okay. Weird. Awkward. But I mean, we know that Hailey's massively stoned wherever she goes.

She's pretty much announced that, so I don't know.

Dad: That was on Watch What Happens Live, had that, Have you been hot, gotten high here? And it was quite a few number of places.

Isabella: Yeah. She's funny, though. I mean, she's a lot, but she's funny. And then... Okay.

So I guess it's kind of a charity event regarding this Off Broadway thing that, again, Carole invited everyone to. And Erin and Hailey... They do this auction, and Erin and Hailey are arguing during the auction, which kind of reminded me of that episode of Rhode Island.

Dad: Oh,

Isabella: right. Where they had... They were at the...

Dad: The husband was singing?

Isabella: Yeah, and they're arguing at the table while he's singing. Kind of reminded me a little bit of that because everyone around them is telling them, Shut up. Even Carole's like, Shut up. Like, I brought you here. But then they made up.

Like, they made up.

Dad: They worked, right?

Isabella: So the episode ended with them... I don't even remember how they made. I guess they both apologized to each other. They're like, Let's just move on.

Dad: We'll see how long that lasts.

Isabella: We will see. They're going to have more issues, I'm sure of it. But that's all I had. I thought it was a better episode than last week's.

Dad: Agreed. Yes.

Isabella: And then you caught up on RHOSLC early this morning. I did. So that's fresh on your mind.

Dad: It is. And top on my list is when you watch YouTube TV on a web browser, you can play it at higher speed. So I was...

Isabella: Oh, God. Here we go.

Dad: Was gonna do 1.5 x, just like I listen to all my podcasts or

Isabella: I feel like there's no way it's as good. The lines probably don't hit as No.

Dad: Maybe, but I'm used to playing the podcasts at faster speeds. So to me, it was normal, and I watched the show in two thirds of the time. It was very quick.

Isabella: Let me... You catch Whitney saying antidote when she meant anecdote? Did you catch that

Dad: in didn't, your but I was also multitasking.

Isabella: I get it, but that I... That was my first note, was Whitney... And no one corrected her. No one corrected her. She said, the...

I have a little antidote about that. I was like, I think you mean anecdote, but okay. Close enough. I don't know what Angie... Oh, Angie's talking about with Mary.

Angie and Mary are talking about Quai, Quai, I still... Quai. Her real name is Ashley, but they're calling her Quai. I guess she took a toothpaste for her ex fiance,

Dad: I believe. Toothbrush.

Isabella: Toothpaste, yeah, toothbrush. And scrubbed the toilet with it.

Dad: Or just wiped it around the rim. The story varies through the episode.

Isabella: Yeah, but Angie's making this a thing. She's making this a thing.

Dad: Oh, yeah.

Isabella: The women are going to San Francisco for St. Patrick's Day, which I don't know if that's a place you go... I've never heard of that, but okay. Bronwyn lived there for a while, and it's like a special And place to

Dad: she picks the city, and so I think it's I her didn't know that San Francisco is a big St. Patrick's Day destination.

Isabella: Oh, I had no idea.

Dad: Maybe it is on the West Coast. It's not like Boston. Right? Or Chicago. Right.

Or a variety of other places. But maybe it just lined up that that's where they happened to be going at that time.

Isabella: Yeah. I don't... Yeah. I think that's more likely it just kind of lined up. Oh, found out that Angie talked about her marriage in this episode.

We found out that she feels like she's living with a stranger. We know now that they are... They're definitely separated. I don't know about the divorce. I assume they're getting a divorce.

Dad: I don't know. I did notice, I think I noticed, that when she gave the confessional to talk about the problems with her marriage, she looked dramatically different from other confessionals that I remember from this season so far. Not just in her... The outfit that she's wearing, but her hair and maybe even her face has changed a little bit. So if I'm remembering correctly that these are two different confessionals, maybe they added this on at the end of the season and they're cutting it back in and showing it earlier...

In earlier episodes.

Isabella: I could see that happening, yeah. Because we know that they announced it after filming wrapped. So maybe during filming, maybe she wasn't as wanting to talk about it. Right. I don't know.

But that's valid.

Dad: Maybe. I could be completely wrong.

Isabella: No, it's like a valid thought. It's a valid thought. Where are we? Oh my gosh. The Oscars bit.

Lisa with the she's like, I get invited to the Oscars all the time.

Dad: Oh my god. Come on.

Isabella: I mean, she just can't help herself.

Dad: And then she just compounds it by saying later in the minivan, I got invited even before I was a housewife. Okay, no chance. Okay, I don't live in Hollywood. I don't live... I've been to LA, but the chances of someone in Salt Lake City whose only claim to fame at that point is maybe they had the tequila going at that point.

I don't know that that She

Isabella: gives a little bit more credit. She basically... She's a big deal regarding the Sundance Film Festival. I'm

Dad: not Is that sure being the case?

Isabella: I'm not sure anymore, now that she's on Housewives, but that kind of was season one of RHOSLC , Lisa's kind of thing was the tequila and Sundance Film Festival.

Dad: Okay. I couldn't remember whether those developed during the franchise or during the show or before.

Isabella: Yeah. I actually kind of think she doesn't do it anymore because I think that film festival is moving out of Salt Lake City. Okay. But I... Yeah.

It doesn't mean Lisa's any less ridiculous.

Dad: Right.

Isabella: But I have to give her a little bit of credit that I guess I could see how that connection could potentially be made. Skeptical though. I still don't think.

Dad: I don't believe it at all.

Isabella: And to the other the other women are like, well, why would you not go? She's like, I I don't know. I mean, I just... It wasn't really my thing. And they're like, if I got invited to the Oscars, I'm going to that over anything else.

Dad: Certainly over some of the b -rate movie premieres Yeah. That she's so emphatic about. Yeah. I mean, those are not... It's not like she was seeing Gone with the Wind.

Right? It was the... I can't even think of the movies that she's so proud of being invited to as the premier, which any movie premier is a tier below the Oscars.

Isabella: Yeah. Multiple tiers below. I know, yeah, it depends on the movie, of course. But I don't think she was going to the Oppenheimer premiere.

Dad: Right. Right. No. No.

Isabella: So I don't know. Yeah, they're talking about that in, I guess, the sprinter van... I think they're in San Francisco already, but, yeah, sprinter van. And then Angie's like, I have a gift for everybody.

Dad: Oh, right. Right. This is desperate. Thirsty.

Isabella: This is desperate, but she pulls out the two... And you know what? Maybe this is part of the reason why Salt Lake City is so good, because these women are kind of desperate. Like, they need to start drama, and they do.

Dad: Oh, she started it.

Isabella: She sure did. So she hands out all these toothbrushes, and clearly it's a shot at Quai. And then they're all kind of arguing, and I got... I I get... I was lost for a minute here, but I guess there was a conversation had between Quai and Bronwyn and Whitney, and they're discussing some aggressive comment that Angie made.

I might be losing it here because this argument was so confusing to me. It was hard to follow along. But...

Dad: I think she was referring to Heather. Okay. So when Quai was saying, I like Heather. She was really nice. But then when I saw her go after Lisa and pointing her finger in her face, I thought, oh, Diablo, which is, I think, Spanish for devil.

And then Whitney translates that into, she referred to her as diabolical. I've So got to give Whitney some credit that she can translate from the noun to the adjective, but...

Isabella: Although diabolical and devil are not equal either.

Dad: I think probably diabolical came from Diablo. Right.

Isabella: But still mistranslated.

Dad: Right. But the spirit is similar. Right? Like, someone the devil and you're being diabolical. It's close.

Right? Yeah. So in the pantheon of how housewives recreate or miss state something. It's not too far off.

Isabella: Yeah. I think the main thing here is... And, again, the details are kind of... I'm struggling with the details right now, but the main point is that Quai clearly felt like she had a conversation with Bronwyn and Whitney where Bronwyn and Whitney were agreeing with her. Yes.

And that kind of shifted in the bus. Whereas Bronwyn and Whitney are not kind of giving the same energy, I guess. And so Quai is now feeling like she's been betrayed a little bit, especially by Whitney, so she's kind of crying in a corner on the side of the street talking to Lisa because she's also quite comes onto the show saying she's very, very good friends with Whitney and Heather and Lisa.

Dad: Right.

Isabella: Now, Whitney's very close with her because I guess Whitney was really good friends with Quai, Ashley, same thing, they call her both, her sister who died.

Dad: Yes.

Isabella: So that's why Whitney has relationship with her, I guess. With all that being said, I don't know why you're gonna change your tune for your friend like that. I kind of understand, as she's crying in the corner talking to Lisa, Whitney comes up and she's like, I don't want to talk to you. Like, you started all this. This is your fault.

And clearly, Whitney downplayed whatever Ashley Quai said to her. Yeah, that's about all I got. It's a lot going on with this argument.

Dad: Well, and Quai seems to focus on the fact that she told these stories in confidence. Now, one that might have been in confidence was the toothbrush, because I don't remember that being shown on the show, but the talking about how she thought Heather was Diablo, that happened on camera Yeah. With Bronwyn and Whitney. If she thought that was in confidence,

Isabella: That's the conversation I'm referring

Dad: to. She's stupid because that's not how it works on these shows. And it's gonna come out at some point, and you probably have... If you haven't watched the show, you should be more in tune with what's gonna happen.

Isabella: Yeah.

Dad: It's gonna come out.

Isabella: Whitney just continues to get herself in these bad situations.

Dad: She does.

Isabella: At a certain point, like, you got to ask, is she just dumb?

Dad: I think it's more dingbat, going back to RHONY.

Isabella: I don't think that she's

Dad: kind of malicious. I think that she just doesn't think, and she'll say something, and then regrets it. I don't know. At the end of the day, if you're the person who is suffering, if there's that much difference because you're going through something you didn't want to happen, and if it's because the person is dingbat or malicious, the end result is the same.

Isabella: Yeah. I kind of almost think the dingbat might be even a little bit more frustrating because you know that she doesn't mean badly, but she's still doing wrong. And if it was malicious, then you could just cut her out of your life. They could still cut her out of their lives, but clearly even Lisa knows that Whitney doesn't, I do think she means well. She just is a dingbat, and she forgets what she's not supposed to be sharing.

Messy, and I don't even think it's on purpose. Maybe it's on purpose some of the time, but I don't think it is a lot of the time.

Dad: It just occurred to me that if someone is a dingbat or an airhead or otherwise just can't think straight to do something the right way, it's harder to cure that. Whereas if someone is malicious and calculated, you can at least in theory get that person to change their ways because they're doing it on purpose and they can make the change on purpose to no longer do it. That doesn't mean they're going to do it.

Isabella: No, you're right. Think I'd probably just cut that person out of my life, but like I said with Whitney, it's hard because I don't know. I think she doesn't even understand what she's doing half the time. And also, I don't wanna be so hard on Whitney and act like she's an idiot. No offense to Whitney at all.

Dad: Dingbat is only being used now because it was the way

Isabella: to describe Jessel. Or Carole. Carole said it about Jessel. Right.

Dad: Correct. But I think that now Qui is on notice that she shouldn't be telling things to Whitney if she wants them to remain secret.

Isabella: Yeah. And I think we... I think the audience probably could have told her that.

Dad: True.

Isabella: But I mean... Okay. I think I had said before that RHOSLC had been a little bit slow to start, and we're picking up now. Yes. I'm interested to see how this plays out.

Dad: Messiness has increased.

Isabella: Oh, my gosh. One more thing, Bronwyn. She's walking past this woman with a cigarette, and she goes, Do have another cigarette that I could have? And the woman says, No, I only have this one. Do you want this one?

And Bronwyn says, Actually, yes, I do. Yes, thank you.

Dad: You might think that's disgusting, but...

Isabella: I I think it's...

Dad: As a former smoker, I've been there, done that.

Isabella: I'm sure. Yeah. I I went to college too. Not not that I was a big cigarette smoker, smoker, but like I know how these

Dad: things Although it it kind of breaks the rule. If that was that smoker's last cigarette, it's one thing to say like, yes, I will have a puff of your cigarette. I don't

Isabella: think Bronwyn cares one bit.

Dad: She was... I'm sure she was wasted. But to take someone's last cigarette kind of violates the... Like an old code. Right?

If someone says, here, have one for my pack, and that's the last one, even if they're smoking one, you're not supposed to take the last one. You have to move on and

Isabella: go someplace Well, I just thought it was hilarious that Bronwyn was like, yes, actually. Yes, I will take that.

Dad: It was Yeah.

Isabella: That's that's all I had on RHOSLC, but...

Dad: And I think that's our last show, right? Yeah. The second or

Isabella: We do have...

Dad: Let me

Isabella: starting just look up what we have coming. Soon. Yeah. Potomac starting a week Let from me see what else I have written down. The Golden Life with OG RHONY.

Okay. Luann, Ramona, Dorinda, Sonja. I think Dorinda's on there. Yeah, all those women. That starts October 20.

Dad: Is that a Bravo show?

Isabella: It's on E.

Dad: Okay. What about what's the woman who was OG that sued Bravo, who's definitely on the outs? Skinnygirl .

Isabella: Oh, Bethenny's not on it. But I will say, when they were filming the show, they went to Paris at one point, and Bethenny also went. And I think it turned out to be like some brand deal together. But if they were filming in Paris because they were all there, then maybe Bethenny does make an appearance. I'm not gonna count on that.

Dad: Okay.

Isabella: But maybe she does. Who knows? I'm not even the biggest Bethenny fan, but I think it would be really cool to see all of those women back together.

Dad: I think I'm a Bethenny fan, at least as she was in the show. Yeah. I haven't really paid attention to all the things that go on with her outside of the show.

Isabella: She's kind of insane. I don't even have a any good way to describe her. It's just kind of insane.

Dad: But that was really good on the show. For sure.

Isabella: For sure.

Dad: Especially Scary Island.

Isabella: No, I do think Bethenny is one of the better Housewives She of all doesn't get enough credit because she left and came back, she doesn't have any connections to Bravo anymore, but she's great.

Dad: Well, good reminder that that's coming up, I needed to know. So that's it for me for this show. How about you? Anything else from you?

Isabella: Oh, one more thing. Next week, our episode is probably gonna come out a little bit later on Monday or Tuesday morning, depending on. I'll be traveling and getting back late Sunday.

Dad: Okay. So look for it on Monday evening or Tuesday morning.

Isabella: Yeah. Yep.

Dad: All right. As always, like, comment, share, send to anyone you think would get it. Send us comments, suggestions, anything you have and other feedback.

Isabella: Yep. You got it. Thanks, everyone.
